Hi,

I have 2 questions about Canadian Tax (in BC)

1. If i imported a boat from the US into Canada and paid the GST and PST, can i get it back if i sell it to a US buyer who take the boat back to the US?

2. I am looking to buy a boat go cruising for 6-10 years but would like to refit the boat in BC, does this mean i will have to pay GST and PST although I am leaving BC once the refit is done (looking at 1-1/2 year project)

2. No, if the boat is bought outside of Canada and registered as a Canadian vessel it can be brought in for refitting and repairs without tax but cannot be sailed. As to the length of the stay I do not know. In any event you should check with Customs and BC Sales Tax first.

Also if you are buying a boat, to keep the price down, remember to purchase an American or Canadian boat, as these products are "duty free."
