Re: Boat Registration in UK

Ok guys ... this seems to be a never ending story. Just had a chat with a guy who is in the (commercial) ship registration. He proposes for a non-British person wanting a UK registration to go with a UK Ltd or Scottish LP (latter to be preferred).

Re: Boat Registration in UK

So ... it's final. A proper solution would be a Scottish LP with a LPA which states, that the LP does not do any business in UK. Therefore no accounting stuff has to be done neither to be sent to the officials. What is needed :

- business adress
- nominee partner

both can be provided by most of the formation companies.

Yearly "maintenance" is pretty reasonable .. abt 500. Survey could become costly (1k) but still affordable since registration is valid for 5 years.

Re: Boat Registration in UK

Last time I looked tonnage surveys for yachts under 15m were priced in UK at around 200 pounds. Maybe they have gone up a little.

Re: Boat Registration in UK

Seems there are two classes of surveyors. MCA appointed (aaprox 200) and the "big" ones (Lloyds, GL etc, approx 1k).

Frankly I am quite happy even if I have to get Lloyds do the survey for a sub 10m boat ...

After all it looks like you can get a legal registry !

Re: Boat Registration in UK

Just to throw an interesting curved ball, and I may well be out of date here but isn't part one registry in the Channel Islands non expiring? This would save yearly renewals!
This does provide some interesting fun with customs however as it is entirely feasible to have a VAT paid, non expiring, Channel Island registered, British Part 1, vessel.
Unfortunately UK customs take some convincing that VAT has been paid!

Re: Boat Registration in UK

Dare I ask what "Swissy" looks like ?

Lump of cheese in one hand and a cookoo clock in the other ?

Wear lederhosen perhaps ?

Try carrying an alpenhorn through customs possibly ?
