Well, "Google is your friend". Second hit on my first search was :

AAA Storage and Truck Scales
1197 Piney Green Road
Jacksonville, NC 28546

(910) 347-1028

Looks to be 42 miles from Hampstead. I also notice that Wilmington is even closer and certain to have a few scales, as well.

Just saying...

The mysterious extra weight
Might want to inform the authorities and check it out
At least that way the op will find out where his boat is located

To the mods....

I am very impressed on the interest in this thread... Can the mods post some statistics as to the popularity of this thread as compared to others in the History of C.F.?

This has grown by leaps and bounds.. and even with deleted posts has logged an incredible response....

As entertaining and informative this is to me on the sidelines.... there are unfortunately at least 3 involved parties here that are not laughing at the situation...

Not knowing the full story from all sides I am not passing judgement, just expressing my condolences at the frustration that is being inevitably felt on all sides...

DOJ-after your last comment-you may want to be on the lookout for the black helicopters coming to whisk you away to a secret prison!

Dans, The shipper would have no recourse as to the cost of shipping. He would be expected to pay the freight when receiving his property. A shipper /receiver has to pay the freight before he can claim any damages should there be damages to the freight. All this is spelled out in the regulations for interstate transport regulations. The rules may be slightly different if transporting within a state.

Easy for anyone to see. Just go to the right hand column on the title, and you will see total posts and total views. If you want to see where it stands compared to others, just click on "Replies" (here is the current trend) and it will sort for you.

Sounds so much similar to the scam the last marine repairers and boat yard tried to pull on me. I was so lucky I never gave them possession or control of my boat, so I was able to motor away. Still, they even contacted Maritime and the Water Police telling them I did a runner on my bill. Luckily I am a Lawyer and convinced the authorities this was neither the case nor their jurisdiction.

What they did not tell the authorities was that the disputed $480 was in addition to nearly $8,000 of insurance work and $2,000 of mooring fees that were paid in full. Likewise, they had quoted on the basis of a high standard of work, but did the most minimal if not negligent attempt at the repair. Oh, of course they came across - at least at first - like a reputable unit.

It just sucks that you can't trust anyone these days!

I'm sure most of the CF contributors regardless which side of the argument you take appreciate the overtime the Mods have put in trying to ride herd on this hotly discussed topic. Kudos to all of you! Phil

Re: Boat Held Hostage By Marine Transport Company

3 Weeks ago I sat for my medium rigid licence so I could drive my 12 ton Mobile Home I am getting shipped from the USA,

One of the questions was,

Who is responsible for the load weight on a truck,
The answer was, The Driver of the truck,

They also had in the multiple answer,
Owner of truck,
Owner of load,

I cant see that being any different in the USA,

+1 is not enough.

Thanks to the mods, and not just for their work on this thread.

I'm waiting for the movie. I wonder if we'll all get a few royalty checks if the movie does well.

Personally I think everyone that posted to this thread should be hired as technical consultants for the movie and flown to Hollywood for the filming.
