It's legal in this country now but I've yet to see any takers. Must be the climate.

Re: Boarded by the FWC at Anchor.
Good example with the show cops. I brought up in another topic about how some places have limits on freedom "rights" and if the government wants can pass legislation "notwithstanding" to court scrutiny.
Many places have basic misconception on what can and cannot be done. Even what their rights they value really are. The Supreme Court said police cant stop vehicles with pro marijuana stickers. So they said illegal "search" and dropped the charges.

While assigned to the local click it or ticket campaign. I stoped Mr pothead. To ensure my personnel safety I checked registered owners status before contacting Mr pothead and establishing their true identity. The registred owner came back as Mr. Pothead. Allthough I had not established that Mr Pothead and registered owner are one and the same. The registered owner "Mr Pothead" had several minor drug convictions in this state. As I approached the vehicle I noted attached to the vehicle "pro pot" stickers. As the driver rolled down the window I noted what I believe from my experience as A police officer the odor of marijuana

Yeah but the Supreme Court said the cops can't search or stop vehicles based on pot bumper stickers......................

Re: Boarded by the FWC at Anchor.
Much ado about nothing.
Yeah, it is a drag to deal with the more gestapo-minded LE Officers, whether on land or at sea. Unfortunately, not all LEOs have a decent "meet & greet" manner. All I can say is "suck it up, princess" because it probably wasn't the last such visit & you really have little recourse. Personally, I "get" how the OP feels about the experience, but, in the grand scheme of things, it seems a very minor issue.

Re: Boarded by the FWC at Anchor.
Check your chart plotters folks. You're wandering a bit off course. Might I suggest a helm adjustment before she founders on the rocks?
Thanks.

Re: Boarded by the FWC at Anchor.
I hope people have considered what "13 pounds" means when it comes to a dog. A 13 pound dog is decidedly too small to even bite you anywhere except for the hand. They would not even be able to get their mouth around a shoe. I know this, my dog is 19 lbs!

Re: Boarded by the FWC at Anchor.
Geese are no joke! My great grandma was canoeing years ago, and received a cracked rib from an angry mother goose! One of my family friends used to have an "attack goose" when I was a kid, it would guard his front yard! I was never allowed to leave the car or the house without an adult to protect me!

It is the responsibility of the officer to uphold the law, not antagonize the public.
Just like the officer, the dog was only doing it's job ....if the officer felt threatened he should have backed off until the owner could control the dog and not make things worse by issuing threats.
Common courtesy is now considered optional by most LEOs .... maybe the world would be a better place if we all treated others as we would like to be treated.

Good Point - this sums up how it should be done.
First ask if there are dogs on board, and ask the owner to secure them first.
A very high percentage of boats around here have dogs...

Goes to show you, don't mess with a Canadian
Having eaten Canadian geese (I don't generally recommend eating Canadians but the geese are good) I might have been tempted to call it dinner once it was on board!

Re: Boarded by the FWC at Anchor.
After reading a number of these threads here. It seems the common problem is the approach of the boarding itself. I have encountered it personally, and witnessed it too. Seems like there needs to be a wee bit of spanking going on in headquarters ........... i2f

I notice that this has become a "hot topic", wow , guns , anchors now dogs, what next
anyway, if any dog tries to bite me i'd respond with whatever Ive got, if I have a gun , Id shoot it, knife it beat it or whatever. No dog should bite people in my opinion. Thoese that do inevitably end up biting a child or whatever and that dog ends up as fertiliser.
I fully agree with the LEO predictament, perhaps instead of considering pepper spray , he should have just kicked it a good one.

Re: Boarded by the FWC at Anchor.
It is a hot topic, because of the political viewpoints expressed, NOT the dog!
I've been sitting on the sidelines mostly, but just have to throw in my $0.02
Just for a minute, place yourself in the LEOs shoes... not the one in the OP, but any LEO boarding an unknown boat MILES away from back-up. Would you let an unknown person leave your sight, go below deck.... to tend to a dog.... then come up with a gun?
Is there an excuse for unprofessional conduct? NO! BUT there is also no excuse for rude or discourteous conduct by the vessel occupants. I'll bet 99% of all LEOs are like a mirror; you show consideration and respect, and you'll get it back.
They have a tough job... and they are not enforcing THEIR rules, but the rules imposed on you by the people who are elected to represent society... De facto: YOUR rules! Give the guy a break, show him your respect, and take it up with the lawmakers!
