Bright pink or green, maybe a whole rainbow of colors like his boat got attacked by a ginormous Costco bag of skittles.

Rainbow yes! I use Evil, it's extra hard. Put em in the top of the freezer if you wanna crack windows!

I wouldn't suggest anyone do this unless they are willing to take the whole matter to the authorities and end up in jail. Personally I'm happy to take a little vacation over that, wakers need to be stopped. Someone could die. Maybe a child.

From the one camera image included in the article, it doesn't seem likely that 911 could identify any boats at all. Too far away (unless they have a powerful zoom feature).

You guys mad at getting waked need to hang out in foreign countries where container ships will buzz you at 50', no problem. The only time I've shipped green water was a in Bahia Todos los Santos. Container ship over took me when I was under sail, not bothering to do a damn thing other than sip his coffee. I took it on the nose and buried my bow deep in a wave.

I don't expect a container ship to slow for me. Try entering NY harbour (Ambrose Channel) in the early morning when the container ships are coming in, one after the other. Most throwing a 6 foot bow wave.

Interesting. I've had lots of ships pass at speed and their wake is hardly noticeable. Not so for the deep displacement power boats. Now, if your in a narrow waterway like the Gulf Coast I.C.W., beware! The displacement of water by ships is huge, mostly drawing it away from the sides of the channel exposing your vessel to possibly encountering the bottom at worst, and being spun around at the very least. Been there, done that.
