Bahamas Entry Documents Requirements

Because we are Canadian citizens living in the USA under green cards we cannot federally document our boat purchased in USA 3 years ago, we are registered with the state of Maryland. We are planning on cruising to the Bahamas this winter. I have checked their site, noonsite etc but see that we only need to have our passports and green cards for filling out the forms. Is their a form I haven't found that would require the boat's documents?...Will having only a state registered boat be a problem entering the country?
I anticipate this would be a problem for other further foreign countries. Has anyone experience with this?

Having a state registration will suffice for the form C2A inward Report for pleasure vessels.

Re: Bahamas Entry Documents Requirements

hello eveyone.... just joined a few min. ago! lots of good reading and helpfull info!!!!! my wife and two kids are planning a trip to bimmini from florida and i know it sounds crazy but havent even bought the boat i will be sailing there with, YET. we are looking at the macgregor 26x and just to let ya know that its going to be about a year or so before we are able to go,currently learning how to sail, please dont laugh!! i am not gonna make the crossing ill prepared! when i purchase the boat we will be doing plenty of shakedown sails before we even consider making the trip. The boat must be a trailer sailor because of my location and leaning towards the macgregor for many reasons, one,the cost, and second, because of its motoring capability, to hopefully compensate my inexperience..LOL! but i am a pilot and have good navigation skills that will help me in learning the nautical nav. skills. that said, was wanting any advice anyone can give me, pros and or cons on the mac 26 or trailer sailors in genral and any helpfull tips, hints, encouragments ect. i have a ton of questions that i know some of you old salts can answer but starting with these...ANY helpful info would be greatly appreciated!! i caught the sailing bug a bit late maybe.... but i say never too late!! THANKS!

RMFP -- Mac26 isn't a "bluewater boat" but if you know your boat and watch the weather, you can easily make it to the Bahamas. Lots of owners and info here: The Trailer Sailor - Home

Re: Bahamas Entry Documents Requirements

I second what Cormorant said about the suitability of the MacGregor 26.

Another thing to look into before making your purchase is insurance. In my experience, getting Bahamas coverage for an outboard trailer-sailor can be difficult.

Re: Bahamas Entry Documents Requirements

Welcome, RMFP. I wish you all the best in learning to sail here in South Florida, and the wonders of the Gulf Stream. As a pilot as well I can tell you that many skills that you already possess will come in quite handy out on the water. Appreciation for the weather is paramount. Knowing your craft is the best insurance policy. Best of luck!

Re: Bahamas Entry Documents Requirements

Bahamian entry is very simple. It usually takes longer to find official. As for RMFP's dreams of Bimini, there is not much left there.
