26.5mm Flare Gun

Has anyone had any experience with a 26.5 mm flare gun. I read somewhere that you can use 25 mm flares in it. They also have a sleeve for 12ga flares also. Any info is welcome.

You can get sleeves that will adapt to any size flare. They are tough, but unlike the plastic ones, they will rust. I would be careful to make sure the sleeve you get would not allow a 12 gauge shotshell to fit in it. I am 99% sure they would blow up with a shotshell in them. On the other hand they will shoot a 12 gauge flare 26.5 mm flare, or a 25mm flare with an adapter sleeve just fine. You will need an adapter sleeve for the 25mm flares as well as the 12 gauge ones.

There is a sleeve available to also fire a 12ga shot shell and a 22LR. It is illegal to use this way even though they sell the sleeves. It makes it a firearm not a signal device. I haven't been able to find a 25mm sleeve. It would be pretty thin as the wall thickness would be less than .030"

Where do you get the large flares? I have a WWII RN flare gun in great condition I'd love to get flares for.

Re: 26.5mm Flare Gun

Try Wideners.com or google wideners reloads or the size flares you need for your gun. The 26.5 mm are supposed to climb to 1000ft. They are surplus and one seller tested them and had 100 % work. They are military grade with no experation date come in different colors, parachute, and smoke. I think the reason for the 25mm was so you can't use the 26.5 flares, they would have had to make a stronger pistol.

Re: 26.5mm Flare Gun

Had a .410 gage buckshot sleeve for a Brass 25mm one on a boat years ago. One way of carrying an illicit firearm! When the CG boarded on my way to Mexico and asked if I had any firearms, I truthfully just said "just the flare gun"

FYI- 12 gauge = .729" (18.53 mm) vs 26.5 mm = (1.044") vs 26 mm = (1.024")
