Defender shows a hanging grouper zinc for protection from electrolysis. you clip one end to a ground the other end with the zinc grouper goes into the water. anybody know if the prop shaft is where the ground need to attach? negative battery post? Engine block?
This would be an easy fix for most boats that stay at anchor most if the time.
anybody had experience with this kind of zinc?

Yes, I've used one. You don't have to connect it to the prop shaft. I connect mine to the chainplates, since they are bonded. Anyplace that shares a ground with the engine should work.

Use this as a supplement to prop zincs, not as a replacement for them.

Just to be on the safe side take a digital voltmeter and put it on the resistance scale. Take a measurement between ground and your prop shaft just to verify if in fact it is bonded and and how well.

On my boat there is no prop zinc. There is a very large zinc attached to the side of the boat, around 15"x6"x1", with bolts that go through the hull. A separate wire runs from one of the bolts to a rubbing contact on the propeller shaft, something I always check. :-)
