Yards in Sea of Cortez

Does anyone know of a yard (prefer do it yourself) in the sea of cortez (or mainland side) who can lift an 80' 68 tonne sailboat?

I got one quote from coral opequimar for $2500 out and in. Even San Diego is at $1600 at the most expensive yard.

Who can possibly answer this question for you is possibly Third Day, Rich Boren, who has returned from Mexico to Calif.

When we were there was very long ago, and "Big Abaroa's" outside La Paz could handle large steel fishing vessels. But no DIY, strictly you hire them. We had a mid-night haulout at "little Abaroa's" in La Paz, pretty scary for a newbie gringo.

this will bump your post back up a bit.

Re: Yards in Sea of Cortez

We had a lot of work done at Bercovich's boat yard, just outside of La Paz. Abel, the owner, has a rail way that can haul you out. He advertises he can accommodate up to 160 tons.

The boat yard has been there at least through two generations. We were very happy with the work done there as well as the price.

For a boat your size, Abel will probably not be willing to tie up his railway while you do the work yourself. You can ask him.

Re: Yards in Sea of Cortez

With things changing almost daily in Mexico, getting good up to date info is the Key. So I would recommend you shoot an email to Tom Brown on SV Eagle in La Paz. He runs La Paz Cruiser's Supply there in Marina Palmira and does Yacht Management, so he has his finger on the pulse of things, who is good, who is charging "gringo prices" and more importantly, who to avoid!

His direct email is BigLeftTurn@hotmail.com and just tell him Rich on SV THIRD Day gave you his name and he will take good care of you (he better since he is our dealer in La Paz...ha ha ha and I will be driving down there in a week for a Visit!)
