YANMAR 1GM COOLING ISSUE

Boat is S2-7.9 retrofitted with Yanmar 1GM (not 1GM10). Boat is on trailer. Winterized with normal coolant flow thru exhaust system one year ago. Started engine (08/09/15), ran well, BUT no coolant out of exhaust. Checked obvious, impeller, pump shaft rotates at cranking, no leaks found in system. Have two foot rubber hose in bucket connected to pump. 1) Does the muffler system have to be filled/primed after this long storage? 2)Is hose length too long run into bucket? 3)Does the rubber hose need to be primed? 4)How long can engine run without water thru system?

Re: YANMAR 1GM COOLING ISSUE

I have a 1GM10 in my little catboat. Just a newer -- slightly higher powered -- version of your engine.

I winterize mine by doing exactly what you are doing (with the thermostat removed so that the antifreeze goes into the block with a cold engine). I've never needed to prime to move the water from the bucket through the system.

It does take a little while for the water to start coming out the exhaust at idle. How long did you run yours?
