Wow! Look at the Legs on Her ! (NSFW)
Turned up recently a couple of boats down from me - draws about 6 foot and I think somewhere around the 40' foot mark.....dwarfs everything else
Those legs are not only collapsible but also adjustable. Probably aluminium. Not meant for general day to day use, but saves a haulout fee
Posted just to show what can be done (not really a major thing - just needs to be done well).

I thought it had bilge keels too at first but I think that is an illusion. If it did it would not need the stands, right?

Re: Wow! Look at the Legs on her! (NSFW)
Someone posted a while back suggesting these are fairly common some places. I've never seen them around here though.

No, she definitely has bilge keels. Blow the pic to original size, quite obvious.

Lol - no bilge keels! Photos taken from the Quay. Should still be there tommorow - will try and remember to snap a couple more photos from below.
FWIW that's one of the reasons mine has got a few more keels (3 of them - despite that the photo below may suggest only 2 ).

With those tiny pads you'd better sure of a good hard beach. Too bad if the bottom turns out to be soft mud and the tide is already too far out to keep you upright. !

Strange and lovely David. Kind of like you.
I haven't seen shots of her before. Is she new to you?

Yup , but with a tide that leaves twice a day that not really such a problem around here. (and not meant for drying out anywhere exposed - open water / open beach).
For something that size those legs are only meant for occassional use (she is in a working berth, with her draft probably only floats for a couple of days each month .......me is afloat about 2 weeks a month ).

Not sure exactly what the "why" refers to
If it is simply why the legs? - saves on haul out fees and storage charges ashore, half a dozen of those would pay for the legs..........obviously depends on area she is in
She is where she is because the boatyard is opposite, has electric and water available and simply is a good working spot .....I don't actually recognise her, probably lives in a Marina - certainly won't be living on her legs.........

Photo says May 2006 and she is in England so must be shortly before she came "home" (took me a year to pick her up, after simply posting the cheque ......sometimes life intervenes with best laid plans ).
To be honest in that photo she looks better then than now
