Windlass Is Winding Down

My 20 year old Maxwell VWC appears to have a broken gear box, but a strong motor. I am thinking of replacing the unit with a new VWC 1000 and and save the motor for general rust collection. I've been real happy with the VWC but would consider other verticals with similar specs. I already have the mounting hole so the likely choice is the 1000 which I suspect has the same mounting holes.

Any thoughts?

What I have is a Maxwell - Nillson VWC-1000

I have a complete gearcase available, my motor is shot and I have since picked up a complete replacement VWC-1000 of the same vintage. So I did not have to modify the mounting arrangement, and I now have a complete gearcase, clutch etc... gathering dust in the boat shed.

The model was 1100 and purchased in 1991. I have the original manual onboard.

The question is whether a 1000 gearbox will fit - as one may be available (used) and who knows what it's worth.

Or is it even worth it and should it be replaced? Will the 1000 have the same mounting holes? I suspect it does.

While Maxwell assured me that their HWC 1500 replaced my HWC 1100, and all they had done was relabeled it. After I bought it I discovered that they had changed the mounting hole pattern. They moved the bloody holes by about a quarter of an inch, requiring me to refabricate the mounting plate....grrrrr

They're not the only ones--my replacement Adlor-Barbour evaporation unit moved the holes around on an identical box.
