Wind Indicator Jammed

Anybody can make a suggestion?

I have a 10 yr old Raymarine ST60 wind instrument. It seems the wind indicator is jammed (although anemometer turns freely), perhaps from anchoring for a long time head to wind, salt environment and old age. I climbed the mast, found it was hard to turn, wiggled it loose and smothered it with Mclube. A few day later, jammed again.

As climbing my mast is not in my favorite list of things to do, can anyone suggest a maintenance routine and/or the right lubricant (if any) to use on the indicator base.

Thx muchly.

Re: WIND INDICATOR JAMMED

We have the same problem, mostly due to spider webs that go up at night, every night... Sigh!

If you are anchored all the time and the wind indicator only points to one direction, it will seize. What helps in our case is driving the boat in circles for about 15 minutes every week or so to keep things working up there.

Re: Wind Indicator Jammed

Some birds like to perch on wind indicators and are heavy enough to bend them... The other day, a crow perched there twice while we were sailing!

I don't know how often this can happen and what the result will be.
