Winch mounting advice

I'm celebrating ORION's 31st birthday by giving her a new set of 2 speed self-tailing primaries. I have only one question for you experts. When I install the bases can they be clocked in any direction or is there a preferred orientation relative to the gear sets? I know that after installation I have the ability to adjust the positioning of the stripper ring to ensure the loose sheet falls into the cockpit.

Re: Winch mounting advice

I'm about as far as an expert as can be, but when I did mine the lewmar manual recommended that the output drive gear be perpendicular to the load.
