Will Jotun Coppercoat Stick to Interlux CSC Bottom Paint?

The specs on this paint are vague, but the weight of a gallon of it is very impressive; at least twice the weight of the Interlux. Has any of you applied this on top of existing Interlux with success, or would I have to sand off the existing layers entirely to get a proper bond to the bottom?

Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated.

Follow this link and all will be revealed:Coppercoat Application | Coppercoat » Coppercoat

As is common with all epoxy coatings, it is important that the substrate to be coated is well prepared. All
surfaces must be must be cleaned of all contaminates, including dirt, dust, grease, rust or loose paint. Two-pack
epoxy coatings, such as Coppercoat, must be applied to sound and permanent substrates – consequently all surfaces
must be cleaned of any previously applied single-pack paint coatings or conventional anti-fouling

Please give a link to the paint.
Jotun does not make a paint which is called coppercoat as far as I know.
Coppercoat is an epoxy antifouling.

Re: Will Jotun Coppercoat Stick to Interlux CSC Bottom Paint?

OK... Jotun copper bottom paint is from Norway. It is definitely not an epoxy, but rather the old-style single part anti fouling barrier. So, can anyone answer my question definitively, in a simple, "yes" or "no"?

Thanks in advance.

CSC is an ablative. It must be removed if over-coating with any paint other than another ablative.

You know, rather than get your panties all in a bunch here, maybe you should have gone to the Coppercoat website first

Can COPPERCOAT be applied on top of my existing bottom paint?

NO!

COPPERCOAT cannot be applied over existing bottom paints. If you have either hard or ablative bottom paint on your boat, it must be removed prior to the application of COPPERCOAT. (Just as it would need to be removed if you were applying any other non-compatible bottom paint over your existing bottom paint) After removing the existing bottom paint, the surface must be prepared for application of COPPERCOAT. It is probably not necessary to strip your bottom down to bare fiberglass! If you have epoxy primer, gelcoat or an epoxy barrier coat on your hull that is still in good shape, you can just remove the existing bottom paint down to that layer, sand it, and apply the COPPERCOAT.

Frequently asked questions about Coppercoat anti-fouling epoxy. Why is Coppercoat better than standard marine bottom paint? And much more!

Partingclouds, can you provide a link to this Jotun paint. Only copper oxide paint I can see made by Jotun is only available to commercial applicators.
Your best bet is to ask Jotun directly..
Coppercoat is a UK company which produces and sells Coppercoat antifouling.

Read the thread. The OP realizes that Jotun does not make Coppercoat.

No, he called it "Jotun Coppercoat" and after it was pointed out to him that Jotun does not make Coppercoat, he realized his error. He is not talking about a Jotun product, so you can quit looking for one.

Can you tell us for the record, are you talking about the epoxy Coppercoat or are you talking about a Jotun paint.
