Wicking water out of ports ?

We have a Fast Passage 39 sailboat and it's cabin top slopes to a point that water gets trapped in the ports. I have heard of people using a wicking material and hanging it over the edge of the port in order to rid the ports of the water. But how to attach it to the port ? What material to use ? So many questions and I have so few answers. Anyone out there who can help me ?

I use a piece of wick for an oil lamp and a dab of 5200.

Exactly how and where do you put the wick? I seem to be having a similar problem

Same as Guy, but I used acrylic superglue to attach the lamp wick.

Just use care what adhesive you use on non-glass surfaces, as certain ones can significantly weaken plastics.
