Whitlock Gearbox Lube

I have 1979 Oceanwinds 10M that uses Whitlock gearboxes and metal rods for the steering boxes. I've just finished putting new seals and bearings in the boxes. The new bearings are sealed and don't need lubrication, but to lube the gears and to protect the gear shafts from corrosion. I've thought about just using a good synthetic grease but would welcome any thoughts you folks might have.
