Re: Where to buy good used winch / windlass

Just to clarify for those that might have some answers,- I assume the "ST" refers to self-tailing.

Are you looking for two items: a self-tailing winch and a windlass? Horizontal or vertical windlass? Manual or electric windlass? A windlass with a particular size chain gypsy or for line only,- line or chain?

You'll likely have your best answer with some more information.

Not in NY, but contact SailorMan in Ft. Lauderdale...amazing inventory of salvage gear.

Probably a good supply in San Blas, Panama too, where there were at least 7 total losses this year. But no way to get them without being there. Given the cost of new winches, might be worth the trip. ;-)

You might also want to check with Bacons in Annapolis. Very large inventory of good, used gear.

I recommend calling Bacon or SailorMan

before you make the trek to either place. I have never been to SailorMan, but I spend a lot of time at Bacon and I can tell you that used ST winches don't stay in their inventory very long. They generally sell within a day of being put up for sale.

Likewise - Torresen Marine in Muskegon Michigan. Ask about Gordon's Garage. ALSO Wolf's Marne in Benton Harbor Michigan. Both places hav NOS and used equipment.
