What's on your Defender sale list?

Any great deals you're looking to pick up when the sale starts this week? Or regular "household" items you find you frequently need?

A lot of the stuff I'm picking up is small and cheap - various maintenance knickknacks that I don't have yet. Is there anything on my list you've had bad experiences with or would recommend an alternative?
  • Carbon Monoxide detector - FireBox Xintex Sentinel
  • Tef Gel 1/4oz
  • Robline whipping twine, 0.8mm, 80 meters.
  • 50' 1/8" Novabraid Polyester accessory cord, for making a lead line to verify/calibrate depth sounder.
  • Evercoat Gelcoat Repair Kit
  • Falcon Sports signal horn
  • West System Maxi repair pack
  • Handheld VHF - not sure which one yet
  • Tank monitors (water+holding) - haven't been able to make up my mind yet, not sure they have what I want.
  • Butyl tape - probably will instead buy the stuff from MaineSail / CompassMarine
  • MareLube marine valve lubricant - for seacocks
  • 250' of line for making lazyjacks - probably 3/16" Samson XLS yacht braid
  • A type 1 life jacket like Mustang 4-One SOLAS or Stearns 6000 Merchant Mate II.

Yep, Defender always has a inventor sale at the end of march. Best time to order big ticket items. Or even small ticket.

Re: What's on your Defender sale list?

My list has 8 plait anchor line, a group 27 battery for the fishing boat, two dock lines, a fender...I'm going on Friday and am debating a Simrad nss7 evo2. They usually have a couple of in-store-only electronics deals that could sway me if offered. I also may buy a new halyard or sheet, as I try to replace one piece of running rigging every year at the sale. I have a kid newly in college this year, though, so it may just be anchor line and fender.

Thanks for posting this. I'm shopping some Raymarine gear and was surprised it was about $100 cheaper at thegpsstore. Looks like it starts tomorrow, so I'll have to check and see if they put anything on my list on sale!

Re: What's on your Defender sale list?

The Defender Sales starts this evening (3/25/15 - ET) with internet sales and starts in the store tomorrow through Sunday. Defender's prices are already low and they knock off another 5% to 15% on almost everything.

Regarding your tank monitor - if you are looking to do a holding tank, I successfully installed the SCAD (the cheaper one on Defender's website), on my last boat. You have to have a non-metallic tank, and must have access to at least one side from bottom to top. The sensor is a metallic strip, taped onto the side of the tank and wired back tot he display head (which contains the processor). The installation is very easy - if you have the above condition. The display unit will read "Empty - 1/4 - 1/2 - 3/4 and Full". I have that satisfactory to maintain my tank and schedule my pump-outs.

On my new boat, I have a Tank Tender monitoring the fuel and water tanks. It seems to work quite well.

Is it a real sale? e.g.:
ACR RLB-36 GlobalFix iPRO GPS EPIRB Model 2848:
Defender - $622.24
The GPS Store - $599.95
Landfall - $595.00

You'll have to wait for the sale to start, for the sale prices

That is Defender's regular price. They are not particularly good on large electronic items.

Re: What's on your Defender sale list?

Hi Tessellate! Signal horn suggestion!
We have to open 4 bridges almost every time we head out with a long and a short. we went through $15 air cans at least 4-5 per year.

Then I discovered this one "Seachoice Products Pump Blast Air Horn"!!!! we have used one, One, for over two years! the only reason i got a new one was I sat on it and broke it. so I bought two to have an extra, but dont think I will every need the extra.

We went through every single rechargeable, pumpup, big can, little can, etc. I am telling ya, we tried everything. You dont have to take my word, you can try then all too.

like I said, I am on my second one and it is two years old and gets used at least 30 times per month. (four bridges, both ways, sometimes multiple honks).

I am going to start giving them as christmas gifts now that I think about it.

enjoy
