That was really quite a mild case of sludge compared to some I have seen. However it is a good explanation of what needs to be done and how to do it in order to clean your tanks. Some people will have easier access to their tanks and I guess a few will have more difficult access.

tanks with baffles are hard to clean. my new one has gorgeopus baffles precluding cleaning of entire innards. oh well it will work just fine with a pair of racors and a cleaning system installed. woul dlove to clean it before it enters the tank, but i have found baja filters only make life harder. oopsy. i use doubled t shirt with good fortune.

For the age of the tank it looks great to me.
I only hope mine looks that good, condition of the aluminum I mean more than anything.
His use of electric tools made me nervous too, I'd have to go with air tools myself

His tank looked much cleaner than mine did when I took the inspection lid off.

Looks like he allowed shavings from the drill and tap process to drop into the tank. That would have concerned me.

Yes, but he removed the covers again and cleaned the shavings out, then made his gaskets and put them back on, which reminds me.
I used Aviation Form a Gasket in 1977 when I put a different intake manifold on my car, assuming since it said aviation, it was good stuff, right?
I will never, ever use that stuff on anything ever again. Whatever you put it on, never expect to be able to get it off, it's as bad as 5200, really
