I bought my boat over 4 years ago and this tool has been knocking around below one of the deck boards forever. No one I ask seems to know what it is. It doesn't fit on anything I can find on board.

Any ideas?

Looks like for: (list) In-mast roller furler; Windlass; Deck fitting for water or diesel; Hand crank for the engine; Centerboard lift. I dunno

It appears to have locating/locking pins, so for maybe unscrewing a deck plate, or cover over the emergency tiller access, looks like it might even be an emergency tiller, cranked to fit in an awkward location?

It's an old marine rectal probe, with the handle missing. Was used to clear up the anal retentive types.

I agree with the notion that you shouldn't have anything on a boat that doesn't have at least two uses. Clearly this thing has so many I don't know why everyone doesn't have one.

Even tough I can't see where it fits on anything I'm afraid to take it off the boat in case the emergency shows up and this is the key. Could use it as a dingy anchor and ice block crusher in the mean time. It's heavy, and the handle spins, so you could get some serious momentum out of the heavy steel donut on the end. Maybe that's it, a boarding defense weapon.

I have one of those. Its a manual backup handle for your Maxwell-Nisson windlass. to use it you have to remove the drum from your vertical windlass and drop it over the vertical shaft so that the dogs engage with the wildcat.

This is definitely what it is. I had to use a couple of times on my 1985 Passport 40.

I'm no expert, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once - I'm going with the engine hand crank guys. It should fit in matching holes on the front of the crankshaft pully on the front of your engine.
