What is this for?

I was shuffling around my forepeak lockers and noticed this fitting. Any ideas what it is for?

Re: What is this for?

dead eye for attaching the bitter end of the chain to.

or inner forestay attachment with corresponding dead eye to fore stay chain plate in ceiling.

Re: What is this for?

Thanks atoll,

The third one makes sense.

It would have to go through the bed to attach to the baby stay eye and there is a closed bulkhead for the anchor, so the bitter end cannot come as far as the eye.

Perhaps the eye was there originally before the anchor locker was built.

Cheers,
