What is this finish on my cabin sole?

Not familiar with the "gym floor" finish you are talking about. Can you be more specific? Thanks

Years ago one of my friends was in floor sanding/refinishing business. So one time we stopped by one of his work sites to check up on something. I commented on the newly refinished floor being as tough and as shiny as hard plastic. He said it was from water based Swedish made finish. I was surprised as I did not associate toughness with anything "water based". But he did reiterate that that's what gave the resin it's properties. You could move a piano on it and it would not leave scratches. Would be though though to make it non slip as a cabin floor. My buddy was bi***ing about this stuff being to hungry for sanding paper between the coats. And that one had to work quickly as the stuff was very quick setting, no time to spare once you lay it on. It cost about 2-3 times more than your average floor poly. That IMO may have been that "gym finish" others are talking about.

Ammonia will strip shellac very quickly. Ammonia is basic like baking soda so maybe, but I could not find anything with an online search about stripping shellac with baking soda.

Possibly because it isn't the most effective way. It was just a thought about it possibly being shellac.
