What, Exactly, Do You Paint Your Boats with in CA ?

Looking on the West Marine site, and just about every single bottom paint I click on says, "Not for sale in California."

If I cruise in California, is the terminator going to scrub my bottom for me, since I'm not allowed to put anything on it?

English, as she is spoke...

It appears manufacturers and/or retailers can't sell it, not that you can't have it on your boat, or even use it if you have some bought interstate...
I don't imagine they stop you at the border to check.

Hey, if all else fails you could smuggle it in from Mexico in a load of drugs... they'll probably never find it....

Most boatyards in California monitor what paint you use (even if you do your own work) so unless your boat is on a trailer you may be stuck bringing it to another state or Mexico for the work.

I'm nowhere near CA, with no plans of cruising there anytime soon. This was really just a curiosity question.

I can assure you that the agricultural stop at the California border is not inspecting for bottom paint. They may pull you aside if you have food all over the inside of your car, but that's pretty much it.

At the yard you could always go dumpster diving for a politically correct label and stick that on your paint can.
