What Bottom Paint to Use?

Our boat has spent its entire life in salt water. e are looking at a bottom job the beginning of the new year and are looking for a paint that will perform well in either fresh or salt water. Has anyone made a transfer from salt to fresh? Any issues in doing so? Any suggestions on a bottom paint for both water worlds.
Thanks

Re: What Bottom Paint to Use?

Our boat spent some time in Kemah, before we moved south.

We LOVED Interlux Ultra. However, they changed the formula a couple of years ago, and reduced the copper. Most folks down here recommend Trinidad over Ultra now.

A great painter there is Jose, on the north side of Clear Lake. Last number I had for him was 281.38I.six nine three eight. The quality of his work is excellent, he's quick, and he is very reasonable. He's also honest about what works best in Clear Lake.

I went from salt to fresh. Called Interlux. They told me to use micron extra

Google has their tech phone number. Call em. Friendly people.

Re: What Bottom Paint to Use?

Get the best paint you need for salt and it will be fine in fresh water; the most important is to decide if you want hard bottom paint or ablative...as the responses so far have included both as suggestions. This can help in deciding if you need hard bottom paint or ablative bottom paint.

Not true. Not all paints paints can be used in freshwater. For instance, Interlux Micron 66 is ruined after a short time exposed to freshwater. From the Interlux web site:

Micron 66 is a long lasting Self Polishing Copolymer with Biolux® formulated to provide a level of antifouling protection not previously available in any paint. Not for use in fresh water.

Top of the Micron® range – Award-winning, self-polishing copolymer technology with Biolux® SPC. (use in Salt water only)

Re: What Bottom Paint to Use?

We're heading the other way, so have gone with a paint that claims to be effective in both: Micron CSC.

So far, it has performed very well in fresh water, although quite frankly, up here on Lake Superior just about anything will do well.

Re: What Bottom Paint to Use?

Our Marina gets substantial freshwater from underground seepage. The salt and freshwater don't mix all that well with so they sit in layers. Interlux Micron Extra has worked fine for me going three plus years.
