What are these Rail Attachments?

I recently purchased thes stern rails for a project boat. I am trying to figure out the intended use for these welded on items.

Photo 1 shows the 2 rails.

Photo 2 shows a small piece of tube, which is angled a bit away from the photo. I am thinking this could possible be for a BBQ grill?

Photo 3 shows what appears to be pretty specific attachment point, so hopefuly someone will recognize it. Thanks

Re: What are these Rail Attachments?

The little tube sticking up is for a flag staff.

The flat plate is probably to bolt on a wood plank where you would hang your dinghy outboard.

The little metal tabs with one hole I'm guessing are for setting a seat pad in that section and screw it in from the bottom so it won't slide off.

Or it might be for a stern light.

Re: What are these Rail Attachments?

OK. You guys are quick. The plate in the 3rd picture is confirmed to be for a stern light. Googled it and found a picture. I will go with the flag pole tube as well.

The funny thing is that I bought these for a catamaran and the rails will actually be rotated so the short end is on the stern and the long side will be along the sides. I don't intend on using the stern light plate, but maybe I can repurpose it for something else. The flag tube will be on the port side, so there again, I am not likely to use it for that either. I will buy a plastic cap for it.

Thanks guys.

Correct and the horizontal tabs are for seats. Cut some marine ply to fit and hey presto.

The tube could be used to mount a GPS mushroom. If the plate is facing the wrong way then bolt an L plate to it and put the light on the L plate.

Re: What are these Rail Attachments?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will probably just mount my life sling where the stern light plate is. I already have the stern light location picked out. BTW, here is a link to my Blog chronicling the rehab of my 1976 Iroquois Catamaran. Hope to splash Labor Day week.

Re: What are these Rail Attachments?

I would re-purpose the flag pole pipe into a solar light mount.

Stern light mount to a life sling holder.

I would make the stern seats out of starboard for a clean no maintenance look.

Re: What are these Rail Attachments?

The seat area is big enough for cup holders like Cotemar's. And I like how Coetmar mounted the "flag holder" on the starboard seat as well. Less holes in the boat!
