West Marine Bottom Paint?

Hey folks,

Hauling out next week and though practical sailor rates the WM (pettit) premium ablative highly, any first hand thoughts? I need to also note that with our club's discount I can get the paint for <$120 a gallon, a far cry from some of the other paints rated equally well.

thanks!

This is a decent paint, but is rated for one season. You may want to look at a multi-season paint that you can get at a similiar price. Practical Sailor also has some good budget buys in their article.

Use a "hard' ablative paint. It will last longer. I use Seahawk Island 44 hard ablative but will probaly change to a non-tin paint this year. I'm into my third year with the current paint but it is getting thin on the leading edges of the bow, rudder and keel.
