Watkins 27 Rudder Removal

Hey Guys, names Theo and I've been sailing day sailors for years but moving up to an overnighter with my pops (a little father son project).

We've recently removed a bad prop shaft from our Watkins 27 by cutting it out (it was bent up and unusable).

Now we have a new shaft and need to get it in but the rudder is in the way. From searching the net it seems that removing the rudder is supposed to be easy... but from looking at it from inside and out I can't seem to figure out where to start!

Anyone have any experience, tips and tricks for removing the rudder and putting it back in on a watkins 27 or similar type of boat?

Is your Watkins a Single Keel or a double fin? I removed the rudder from a double fin which was on the hard sitting on them. It was faily easy. The distance below the boat to remove is the problem. I had to dig a hole in the dirt and the rudder dropped right out after unbolting it up on deck. I would image the single keel is similar. I thought if you loosen up the rudder enough it will turn almost forward and give you enough room to remove shaft with out taken the rudder totally out. Turn it from center line aprox 100 degrees that may work.
