V-Berth Water Tank "Re Do"

The v-berth water tank is currently a "built in" tank. It leaks, the paint or lining is peeling and I can't even fill it up without pulling a hose into the v-berth. It's time for a "re do".

I'm going to try and document this project here and maybe even ask for a tip here and there.

The plan going in is to put a pre-made 38 gallon plastic tank in. This will be probably 20 less gallons than the built in tank.

I've attached a few pics of where the project is so far. I'll update as it goes an I can promise you the going will be slow. A full-time job, a baseball habit, and a gf limits your boat time unfortunately.

Re: V-Berth Water Tank "Re Do"

I'm sure it will come out great, poly tanks are nice, but I might have just re-habbed:

* Cut the lid out and glass in a flange for reinstalation. A few hours spread over several days.
* Add baffels if needed (prelam FRP). Smooth fillets. No such possibility in the poly tank. A part of the prior project.
* Clean, sand, and re-line with rated lining. A few hours spread over several days.
* Add deck fill and overflow/vent (remember to put a screen in the vent to keep bugs out). Make certain the ocean cannot come in. An hour or so, if you remembered to start this when you pulled the cover.

I've built FRP tanks and been happy with them, so....

there are a lot of companies that sell custom tanks... so you can likely get close to the same volume if you choose.

Re: V-Berth Water Tank "Re Do"

So far today I've cut the top off.

As far as rehabbing the original tank I'm not dead set against it but i haven't found something that can be used to seal the tank that is both economically viable for me and/or sold in smaller quantities. The tank that I have is used and it was all of $100 (might have been $80) and it should fit the space. It's something of a "bird in the hand" thing. I also have a PowerSurvivor 40e that will be installed sometime in the future when it's more needed. I think I can get away with a smaller tank with that capability.

Any more/other thoughts or ideas so far?

I'm not sure I follow you? Can you fill it with a hose through the shown access without leaks?
