Utility of a swim deck and gate, worth it?

I am looking at buying a 33' pilothouse with sterndrive and it is often configured with a swim deck and gate in the transom.

I don't have children and in general the idea of swimming in the area where the propeller is located seems like a bad idea. Also, when I use a boat, I generally want to go boating, not swimming.

Another concern I have is that putting a hole in the transom will decrease the strength of the boat. I was always taught that the transom is one of the strongest parts of a boat. So, it strikes me as somewhat contrary to good seamanship to be putting a gate in a transom and adding a swim deck.

Should I just forget the swim deck and tell them to build the boat with a solid transom or is there some significant utility to this option that I will regret not having later?
