Currently the mainsheet traveler (track and stop system) is located in the aft section of the
cockpit on my
boat (end boom sheeting). I was thinking about fabricating a bridge out of
aluminum and moving the traveler to the
cabin top, upgrading to a track and car system as a mid boom sheeting system.
I am well versed in installing
hardware onto the
fiberglass cabin top, so that isn't a problem and I'll increase the size of my traveler and I'll be adding and additional blocks to increase the mechanical advantage to make up for the shift of the traveler from the aft end of the boom to almost midway along the boom. I also plan to have a Civ E design the bridge to ensure it is of sufficient strength for the task.
Not only would this free up about a foot and a half (.5 meters) in the
cockpit, allow easier boarding of the
boat, but would also allow me to increase the size of the
bimini top I am building for the boat.
Another question, if I install the midboom sheeting system, can I get rid of my
boom vang that connects about 2 inches in front of the new traveler?
Seems too simple, so what am I missing?
