Trapezoid Radar / Solar Panel Arch

Hello faithful forum followers!

I’m in the process of drawing up a design for a radar/solar panel arch that will be installed on the aft deck between the back stay and the aft end of the boom. It will be a trapezoid. There is too much distance between the planned arch and the sugar scoop transom to incorporate a davit system into the arch. Initially, we wanted to install davits onto the transom (separate from the arch) but decided to try and keep the back of the boat clear for convenience sake.

We are thinking about incorporating davits onto the starboard side of the arch. The dingy motor could be left on or removed with one of the davits. Once the dingy is raised, the near side of the dingy could be maneuvered into two chocks (about a foot above the deck) on the side of the arch and stored vertically on its side (bottom of dingy facing out).

A couple of stanchions would probably be in the way and need to be removed. The lifelines could be strung through or incorporated with the arch.

If it ends up not being a suitable place to stow the dingy for puddle jumping, etc., then it would be good for being a theft deterent by getting the boat 5-6 feet out of the water.

There is plenty of room on the forward deck to stow the dingy on chocks but I've heard its a nuisance using a halyard getting it on and off every time you want to use it.

Has anyone seen this kind of a set-up?

Anyone see any foreseeable problems?

I might see it posing a problem on a beam reach in winds over 10 knots and blowing the aft end of the sailboat downwind.

Thanks for your input.

Hi Moonlight, Gallivant is only 36 ft uses a similar design additional bar can be added for dingy davit lift. Good luck
