Tiller Height ?

Is there a formula? A standard? or just plain what feels good height for the tiller to be?

Does tiller height have impact on windvane (adams brand waiting to install) or sheet to tiller steering?

It seems to me that having the tiller be the same height at the windvane blocks on the coaming at the point where the tiller comes longitudinally even with the blocks would be best. Similarly if you are going to also have a tillerpilot, having it at seat level at the appropriate distance forward of the rudder head would ease installation. Finally the tip should be at or a bit bit above knee level which would depend on how tall you are to you can steer with your knees and high enough to sweep over your legs if you are sitting and steering.

Mine is hinged. Lowest height is just above seat level in the cockpit.

thanks everyone... most seem to be low, knee-knocking height. My last boat was wheel, and not a lot to go look at here in the Rocky Mountains.

My concern was the wind vane or sheet to tiller

And I'll consult that owners manual after I'm done building the boat and have time to write it.
