Thru Hull Without Prongs

Hi,

I need the replace the thru hulls on my vessel but only a few of them have the two prongs that allow the thru hull step wrench to grip. Any ideas how I can break free the others?

Re: Thru Hull Without Prongs

Just removed 6 frozen thru hulls. Simple dremmel tool with cutting disc make 4 cuts in the outer flange like you are cutting a pie carefull not to go too deep once the cuts are made drive a long handled screw under the cut pieces pry down. The pieces will break free and you can pull the thru hull fitting out from the inside. Don't be fearfull had 6 out in 1/2 hour.

I was amazed at how effective the Dremel tool with reinforced cut off discs were against the bronze! They cut through like a hot knife through warm butter. I used that in combination with a oscillating tool to cut them short before going after the fitting rings and thru hulls with the dremel. If it were not for the contortion circus they would have popped out in minutes. I highly recommend this procedure.

Be sure to use eye and respiratory protection.

Still... All the new ones will have the prongs as those were the easiest to get out.

Re: Thru Hull Without Prongs

I used a Sawzall, cut four notches, then used a hammer and a large screwdriver. Actually came out pretty easily. Seems intimidating but pretty simple removal.
