Thru Hull Torque

Hi,

I'm replacing my thru hulls with all new bronze Groco backed by a flange.

Are there any guidelines on exactly how much torque to apply to the thru hull when reinstalling?

Thanks,

Z

Re: Thru Hull Torque

not super tight...just tight enough to snug it up, get a good squeeze out of sealant and hopefully the sealant has some adhesive quality but not necessarily 5200.

for tips...

Re: Thru Hull Torque

That's what I have been following. He says ot tighten down "tight" but what is tight? If I tighten with a long wrench attached to the thru hull tool vs using the tool by hand, both will be "tight" but which one is correctly tight?

I plan on using sikaflex 291.

Re: Thru Hull Torque

A little tighter than hand tight is all. Once tight up against the hull...make sure it's snug with caulk squeezing out is good. If I were to guess about 20 foot pounds would be minimum...maybe around 50 would be way more than you need (10 pounds pull on a 2 foot long tool or 20 on a 1 foot tool)
