Thinking of Parting Out Contest 33

Hi,

I am pretty sure that I will be parting out my Contest 33. It is really a shame because other than the horrible gelcoat and some needed interior repairs she is a really good boat with good sails and rigging, a newer yanmar and many other mechanical improvments over the years. My needs are for a larger boat that I can live aboard and although I could make this boat work I don't feel that I could live on it and fix it up at the same time.

The boat is in CT and if there are any Contest Owners out there that are looking for newer water tanks, fuel tank, brand new frame for a new dodger, rebuilt hatches, deck stepped mast with new rigging, etc please let me know. Then there are the generic items like the 3GM30F, sea cocks, nice two speed winches, one speed winches, misc hardware, brand new autopilot that can be used on anyone similar sized boat.

Of course if someone wants a great, solid boat that is reliable with good sails but with the blemishes of an old and formerly neglected boat feel free to contact me. I will let her go for a grand or so less than I can get to part her out. She is on the hard in CT. She is a great solid boat to learn on and does not mind going aground as she always comes out unscathed.

Keep your eyes out as in a week you will start to see items with photos and prices. I am just trying to build up some interest so that I can be more motivated when breaking out the tools as opposed to terribly depressed. I think knowing that the parts and pieces will be wanted and needed will help me with what I know will be an emotional time. Thanks for listening.

Joe

If any of the winches are barient 23's I'd go for one.

But it's surely worth more, or at least easier to sell as a whole?

I agree it would be easier to sell but my guess is that selling could take a few years and in CT it will cost me 3K per year in summer and winter storage plus insurance. Gotta see what interest there is in the parts before I take her apart. So far it seems that the winches are the only hot item.

Lets see how this goes.
