Just a quick update. We've started scarphing in mast sections prior to assembly. Here we are matching the curves.



Now we're checking the joint lines.



A ton of work to get dissimilar pieces to match up before we make the round-over cut. We have three spray coats on her since the first blocking now and she's starting to shine. Only two more to go before the final blocking to remove any grain dips and level the surface and then two to three more spray coats.

New water tanks, hard dodger, radar with radar rack in the back, and the usual cleaning and spiffing for next season.

What tooling do you use to do your scarfing. I have a 4" wide x 1" high x 30' water board I need to attach to my deck that will follow the contour of the hull. I'll be epoxy/glassing over it.
I've consider lap-staking but that's time consuming, especially out doors in this weather.

I built a jig to carry the piece through a bandsaw and finish the joint with hand planers. Running a 50' piece through a bandsaw is a challenge. We specialize in this sort of woodwork and have slots available this Winter For your job I would recommend an 8:1 horizontal scarph joint with a lock in it, similar to what I've seen on Beth (Mark's boat).

What is the mast section shape. Solid, true hollow, or cheek pieces with fore and aft fillers.

I used a 15:1 ON THESE MAST SECTIONS. I want NO possibility of joint failures.
