I like these too. But TN came with a good alternative, Genoa track atop the full length of the toe rails. Works well with cars having pad-eyes, snatch-blocks, stand-up blocks, and cleats (especially good for attaching spring lines or hanging fenders).

Our toe rail has genny track,not full length about 2/3 of the t tail is covered,ive come to like it a lot, all though we had to re bed some of the through bolts,

Well, after all my posts about having removed my toe rails, I must admit that the sections of toe rails from foreward of my turning blocks to my mid-ship gates remain in place. These areas of toe rail are capped with genoa track and I would not give up their function.

I've tried several different approaches on ours....I've used semco now for three Lake Superior seasons and think it's the best.

Best natural color. Put on once a year at any temp.

If I had the budget right now I would pull off the teak toerail which is too thin to sand any more and replace with a synthetic something...

Rbyham, I've been thinking about doing this same thing with some hdpe. Anyone know of someone who has tried it?

I'm in the same boat. Varnish just doesn't hold up in our perpetually sunny climate. Will seal the rail with epoxy and paint. The epoxy will seal the grain and make it easier to strip and go back to varnish if the next owner desires. Be careful sanding, definitely not a belt sander. The rail on my boat has been sanded so often it's half its original thickness in places.

Now the question is what color. Have seen the same color as deck, a contrasting color, and wood brown.

There are many different toe rail designs, so it is hard to generalize. Some add rigidity to the hull/deck joint. Metal and wood do this pretty well; plastic not so much. Also bare plastic could be too slippery to keep your wet foot aboard.
