Teak finish
I know this has been discussed before ... but would like to see a fresh discussion.
Now: Ugly, orangy Cetol, chipping and flaking off Plan: Sand down to bare teak Then, a coat of West System, then a few coats of varnish (this worked very well on mahoghany on my last boat) I don't like the "natural" teak look, so that's out. I also don't like the current Cetol look (though I understand there's more than one option with Cetol). Thoughts?

hmmm ... so just 207 over the teak? very interesting. I can see where that would work well inside, but I think the W.S. can't take the UV. Would need a UV-resistant clear finish over the top on anything exterior.

There will be varnish on top of the West. I did the trim under my hatches 2 years ago, and have not applied varnish as of yet. They still look like it was done yesterday.
I am also doing my outside handrails with West, and will apply varnish. The bench & table sits outside in the cockpit up against the aft wall. They fold down as needed, so they will be exposed to quite a bit of sunlight. Especially on the top edge. |

I have used it.....and
I have done lots of work inside my boat using two or three coats of West with two coats of Epifanes Rubbed Effect Varnish and the result is simply amazing. Next I will try outside with West and Epifanes Woodfinish for UV.
We'll see..... |

I would like to install varnished floor boards in side my boat one day but wonder how slippery it would be with wet feet.
