Teak Decks
Can anyone suggest a reputable but reasonable place to replace teak decking somewhere between California and B.C.?

Re: Teak Decks
Baja Naval.... did several decks and did a fantastic job. I checked their references and they did mine... PM for details...

Re: Teak Decks
Reputable, yes. Reasonable, no. New teak decks aren't cheap. Sail the boat to Thailand if you want a deal!

Re: Teak Decks
I know this is not quite "on topic" but can anyone say whether teak decks add to deck strength? Also, can teak decks be removed completely without any adverse effect?

No, in general you'd need to add a lot of screws which would weaken the deck. I guess you could glue them down and just adding thickness would add some strength but I honestly don't know how to quantify it.
And yes they can be removed and it usually adds reliability because you do away with a few thousand holes/leak points. But anything to do with Teak decks is $$$$$

Thanks for that. It kind of sums up what I thought about buying a big boat with teak decks. For some it might be nice to look at ( I am not sure its for me) and for others it is simply too much $$$ trouble to have. I am inclined to go with the latter.

Re: Teak Decks
They really are purdy, and nice on bare feet too. It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me if they were in good shape or in bad shape and SUPER cheap. Not a dealbreaker but I would think on it real hard.

I've took my teak decks off, it was the best thing I've done to the boat. At the time I was told 20k to replace, it cost me 20k to rip them off and a but off fiber glass work and painting the whole boat. She looks beautiful.
