Tartan 30 Hull Construction

I am starting a rehab on a T-30. Expect to re-build the stb bulkhead.

Can anyone tell me the materials of construction of the keel lay-up of a '73 Tartan 30? Specifically: Is their any plywood or balsa core in the area of the keel, keelson. or garboard strakes; or, is it a solid fiberglass lay-up.

Praying for the latter.

Any information woud be appreciated.

T30 construction

Hi Jim,
a long time since you posted but here's my 1/2penny worth! I have a tartan 30 & have done various jobs including replacing the stbd bulkhead. The hull is solid glass, thickness decreases as you move up from the keel. Deck and coachhouse are either balsa cored or ply cored depending on location, it seems that flat locations (like either side of the companionway hatch) they used ply and on curved locations balsa. I will be interested to hear your progress and exchange notes.
Regards
Orm

In addition to the excellent guidance you get here, there are a number of T30 owners who frequent tartansailing@yahoogroups.com. Many of them have done extensive refits and are happy to help.
