Synthetic Teak

Hello All,

Maybe a dumb question but does any one have experience with a product called Nu Teak or similar products? I am curious about cost, installation, practicality and anything else you may add. I have seen it on boats and it seems like a good alternative to real wood decking. thanks

Re: Synthetic Teak

It appears to be PVC sheeting with a teak pattern surface. Similar to Lewmar's Treadmaster sheeting which are plain surface pattern.
- - So the item is really just a cosmetic addition unless you need it for anti-skid/slip purposes.
- - As with all things "glued" down you must be especially careful to clean and glue the product down properly or it won't be long before it starts to peel or lift off the deck.

Re: Synthetic Teak

Two or three issues ago Good Old Boat magazine had an article on someone using it to redo the cabin sole. They gave detailed descriptions of the installation process. From the pictures it looked pretty good when finished. You might check the magazine's web site to find out which issue and order a copy.

Re: Synthetic Teak

i have some friends who have used the stuff...it works out about as expensive as installing any kind of wood except teak...and it looks like plastic, especially when wet...but it is virtually maintenance free...so what would you put down in your house...wood or linoleum?
