Stern gland not dripping

I've just replaced my packing but the gland isn't dripping. I've loosened but still no drips. There does appear to be a bit of grease coming out with that muddy watered look to it.
Glans isn't hot so I'm thinking I'll just leave it and keep an eye on temp.
Is it possible I squeezed a bit much grease into the gland and it's absorbing the drips?

I should add... I didn't use Teflon packing. Just the regular stuff.

What kind of packing did you use?
Mine is Duramax Ultra X (Hamilton Marine) and its not dripping either. Under power at full rpm the housing is just warm to the touch. I called the manufacturer and they said as long as it is not getting hot the shaft will be ok. I only had this for one season, so I'll keep an eye on it.

In this case I'll keep backing out the nut and run the engine in gear until it drips, then adjust. This will be good for the shaft and peace of mind...
I did this but no drips.... I'll try again this season.

Give it some time, it may start. Check the temp after running a while, as long as it's not hot should be fine. So your gland has a grease fitting...?

I may be wrong but isn't it supposed to drip when the shaft is turning and may or may not when stationary. If it's a new install with grease or whatever you say is oozing out, it probably just needs some running time to get to normal.

Stern glands are only supposed to drip when the shaft is turning, but when they are new they need a few running hours to break them in.

As long as the stern tub is not getting hot you are good to go.

Re: Stern gland not dripping

Thanks.
I've only had 3 hours running on it.
Yes it has a grease line into the gland and I've kept that we'll fed.
