Stability Test

Does anyone know how to do a stability test using inclination? We have a naval architect back East but our boat is with us out West. We need to drum up some figures for him. I get the general principles but need someone to walk me through it.

what you can do is hang a line with weight on it like a plumb bob, this line from point above cl
Then have weights, the more the better at a certain measured distance outboard
measure the angel of the line when the weights are there in place either by marking the plumb line where it hits the deck, cockpit saloon sole whatever, by trig or just sent the measurement to him, This is how I did inclining tests
you could if you have a sailing boat suspend something from the boom and swing it out but you need that plumb bob, you can also mount a protractor behind the pivot point and read angle off of it

This is normally done with a line from the masthead to a winch ashore that has a read-out for the weight it is winching in. Now you need someone aboard to measure heel-angle and measure for every 5 degrees heel. Depending on what's inside your boat, you can winch the mast down all the way to 90 degrees but make sure the portholes are closed ;-)

It's important to have many points of measurement. Now, how to do that simpler... I have no idea.

There is one where you tilt the boat and measure the number of cycles and time per cycle as it rolls until it (mostly) stops. Not sure of the details though. Why isnt your architect telling you how????
