Yes, you need a new sta lok cone.

Unusual it came apart so easily. Best practice is hacksaw wire just above terminal and drive out with punch.

The cones are unique to each brand of fitting. They are not sold by length.

i am not sure what brand it is , i thought that it was Noseman wedge but they are a little shorter.

Except length i dont know how to identify the brand, there no marks on the wedge or the other part.

I would give these guys a call. They have spare cones and could measure them if necessary.

Re: Sta-lock Wedge lenght

Hmm... there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding reusing Sta Lok swage less rigging terminals.

However Sta Lok instructions call for replacing the wedge when re-using them.

They suggest the former should/could be replaced for peace of mind.

Some other sites don't mention replacing the former while others do.

See
https://blog.stalok.com/2014/06/sta-...-lok-fittings/

and

Fitting Instructions - Marinex Australia Sta-lok

I have only ever replaced the wedge, never the former.

Re: Sta-lock Wedge lenght

So when the above posts mention "cone", are you referring to the wedge or the former (both could be considered to be cone shaped (one internal cone and the other a double external cone)
?????

I admit to re-using a StaLoc cone once. Some used cones have obvious damage, like cracks etc. Some look pretty good. After all, as long as the cone is there, it's doing it job. It's the wire that fails.

Re: Sta-lock Wedge lenght

It's 100% sta lok. Odd wire is so far over 7.33. Would make sure you're on the outer round for your measurement. Maybe 8mm??

Re: Sta-lock Wedge lenght

I think the wire is 9/32 = 7.14mm , but yes i find its wierd that there is big gap . if its 5/16 = 7.94mm then the gap is even bigger.

Re: Sta-lock Wedge lenght

Never knew mechanical fittlings had wedges, they always had cones when I was growing up. Tylaska calls them cones for the Norseman fittings. Take a look at one and tell me whether it looks like a cone or a wedge. Wedges go under doors to keep them from slamming when it gets windy.

Measuring wire with a caliper or micrometer is confusing. The 3/16" wire on my boat measures out from .18 to .19 inches but are 3/16" wire which should be .1875". Would suspect that 7.33 is 7mm or 9/32".
