Spreader Light Source ?

Does anyone have recommendations for LED spreader lights. Due to the construction of my current spreader lights I cannot just change bulbs but need to replace the entire fixture. Thanks

I replaced my mast head/deck light with an aqua signal 40. I put a Dr LED replacement in the top for the steaming light and put a truck LED back up light in the bottom for my deck light (it was 4 inch and fit perfectly) lights up the boat great.

I saw this older post after buying my new replacement spreader lights on ebay. I used to have the sealed incandecent beams that looked like tractor headlights and original high amp power drains on my '73 ketch. These can found on ebay after searching "round 13 LED backup lights".




Of course, you would need to design and fabricate a mount for these. I placed mine in a SS hose clamp at my spreaders and inside a short piece of PVC pipe for my engine room lights. As a cheap trick, a pair can be purchsed for under $30 and each one draws about 0.08 amps.

The Kevin lights do not stand up to seawater spray! Mine failed after less than a year of service. See photo. Although the manufacturer blames the finish - a thin layer of paint - the underlying metal (improper aluminum alloy?) deteriorates and turns to powder. After that: water intrusion destroys the LEDs.

I have Taco spreader lights I installed a couple years ago. Why? Because they are about the least expensive LED spreader lights. Now they are not the brightest, but I didn't want super bright. They give good ambiance, and really is enough light when your eyes are adjusted to darkness. Maybe Taco makes brighter ones now, I don't know. But I have had no problem whatsoever with them. And I like that they are too modern looking, which is important on my boat. I see after a google search for "taco spreader light" that they are about $70 now, but I swear I paid about $50...probably on sale somewhere.

I am testing out one of these in my workshop right now; Has been on for over a month now @13.8V without any overheating.



-Reasonable amount of light (claims 600Lumens)
-Low power
-Completely encapsulated, the whole light is a big blob resin around the LEDs
-Will fit nicely on my flat spreaders
-Cheap, I'll get a few spares.

I got it at a local store (Canadian tire) for $40, but they seem to be available online for $20. Not sure how long it will last in the sun.

I bought a 9W 30 degree LED replacement mast light bulb here: LED Spreader Lights - Sealed Beam Replacement LEDs

I have not installed it yet.
