Spider crack repair

I have a area in the hull about a foot square that has extensive spidering in the gelcoat..possibly from impact..The plan is to grind down the GC and patch with resin/cloth..Im confused as to the material to use...what is the standard cloth weight for this? also I read that Polyster resin works better than epoxy due to cloth binders, yet epoxy seems to be to standard to use....what do I need here...

Re: Spider crack repair

Is thw crack deeper than the GC itself? And is there any cracking of the layer below the GC? If not why use cloth and not just GC for a fix?

Re: Spider crack repair

Hard to say but I would not be grinding good glass to repair gel spider cracks. Gel is brittle and has no reinforcement so just cracks readily when bent or deflected. The glass is likely fine. A bit like taking a big flake of hard paint and bending/breaking it.
Sounds like a cosmetic repair to me.

If you can - post a photo of the area, and it'll make for better advice-
