I use UltraX packing and haven't felt the need to spend the
money to change to a "drip-less" system. I've talked to many users of various "drip-less" systems that are anything but what their name implies. With UltaX my drip rate from two shafts is slow enough that the heat in the
engine room evaporates the
water before it overflows a drip pan under the
packing gland

If I were changing from packing I would seriously consider this.
Duramax FRP
Shaft Seal System
Designed With The Fiberglass Builder In Mind.
Perfect for new
fiberglass vessel construction. Features the “Maintenance-Free”
Shaft Seal System with an integrated FRP stern tube and a Johnson Cutless bearing. The factory-tested bond between the shaft seal and FRP tube verifies seal attachment to the stern tube. The FRP stern tube saves production time by allowing you to fiberglass the engineered system directly into your boat.

I have no relationship to Johnson Cutlass. I'm just a satisfied customer. Has anyone had experience with this shaft seal system?
