Re: See What Happens When You Don't Double Drill

What variants do people use as an epoxy formula for the hole filler in a double tap? Curious about faves here...

Re: See What Happens When You Don't Double Drill

I should have added that in the video but I had to edit it for time, as it was.

You want it as thick as possible but thin enough to draw it up into the syringe. In the West Systems; for one squirt of their pump I use about 1-1/2 teaspoon of the 404 filler.

Re: See What Happens When You Don't Double Drill

The technique I would use for bedding a 1/4" bolt would be drill the original hole with a 3/8" bit. Route out the core with a 3/8" diameter Dremel bit. The skinny shaft of the Dremel bit will let the cutting surface wallow out a pretty good radius. Then fill the hole with epoxy. Now drill the 1/4" hole in the center and use a countersink to bevel the top edge so your sealant will make a good bond.

Now you've got a thick plug of epoxy firmly held in place by the top and bottom skins, and you've also got a margin all the way around the 1/4" fitting as well, just in case the second 1/4" hole is not perfectly centered over the 3/8" hole.

Maine Sail also has a very good instructional site on how to prevent core rot -- Sealing Deck Penetrations to Prevent Core Rot Photo Gallery by Compass Marine at pbase.com

Holy smokes, SoulJah! I had no idea of the extent of work you had ahead of you. Well, just keep your eyes on the horizon!(except when using power tools!) This, too, shall pass!

A nail bent 90* in a drill does a nice job
