I'm pretty fussy about smells as well... especially as I do not use pillows when sleeping so a nasty niff hits a lot quicker..
Being a smaller boat sailor I see a bit of green water over the cabin so my seaberths get soused more than most and what I do works well enough for me..
Dockhead... if you want to make really sure.. once they're apparently dry shut them in with a de humidifier for 24hrs...
